LOL!  Fantastic!  Well done!  Yes, short DOF really helps to separate your subject from it's surroundings and add dimension to the shots.  Good experiment!  Remember, the closer to the subject you get, or the longer the focal length you use, the shorter the perceived DOF you can achieve with your larger apertures.  LOVE it!
